What to expect: Top 5 interior design trends for 2024

Throughout 2023, we saw a variety of interior design trends. It was the year of earth-inspired neutral colour palettes, natural materials and green accents, as well as the surge of Barbie pink and the return of 70s prints.

Can we expect 2024 to continue in a similar vein? Will sustainability continue its upward incline? Will bold colours make a comeback?

As a city known for its eye-catching array of architectural styles and multi-cultural influences, you can count on London to be at the forefront of interior design trends. So whether you’re dreaming up your perfect London property, or looking to revamp your own living space, here are our top 5 interior design predictions for 2024.

Vintage furniture

Why buy cheap flatpack furniture when you can invest in timeless pieces that will stand the test of time? With a renewed focus on sustainability and thrifting, the experts are seeing a major shift towards vintage and antique décor choices. People are looking for quality over ‘fast furniture’, and want something that is well-built, well-loved, and can be passed down to future generations.

Because of this, we can expect to see some nostalgic designs and aesthetics making a comeback, integrating with more modern styling choices for a charming mix of old and new.

If you’re on the lookout for some timeless vintage furniture, why not pop into Vintique in Peckham, home to an endless range of one-of-a-kind pieces for your home? Or, if it’s mid-century modern pieces or vintage industrial furniture you desire, check out Bleu Furniture on Herne Hill.

Bold hues

In 2024, we’re waving goodbye to neutral beiges and minimalist colour palettes. Instead, make way for bold, jewel tones and dramatic colours. While those earthy neutrals will always have their place in the home, interior design experts are predicting that people will be reaching for colours that pack a punch in 2024 – giving their homes depth and character and brightening up their living spaces.

Think deep blues, greens and even ambers – whether it’s a standalone statement wall to add a pop of colour, or a mix of bold furniture to brighten up an otherwise neutral-toned room.

Pretty in pink

2023 was the year Barbiecore made a comeback, both in fashion and interior design. Hot pink, glitter and bows became the hottest trends, and in 2024, we’re predicting to see the Barbie aesthetic continue – though perhaps in a more subtle vein.

Dulux has named its 2024 colour of the year as ‘Sweet Embrace’ – a gentle blossom pink that brings a feeling of warmth and softness to your living space. A rather more muted interpretation of Barbie’s Dream House, experts are predicting to see a lot of soft pinks and peaches in the coming year.

Statement tiles

Tiles have become the perfect choice to spruce up an otherwise lacking or dull room. From statement tiles in your bathroom to break up the monotony and create a feeling of luxury, to illustrated tiles for a pop of colour and character, or even replacing kitchen panelling with ceramic tiles to replicate more premium materials – tiles are the focus for 2024.

Not only is tiling incredibly durable, but choosing the right material, design and colour has the ability to completely transform the aesthetic of a room.

Metallic accents

Think brass elements, mixed metals and chrome effects. In 2024, homeowners are opting for metallic finishes to give their living space a gleaming, ethereal aesthetic. With brass accents already having taken off in 2023, we’re predicting to see the trend continue, offering a timeless appeal for both modern and traditional homes.

Whether you prefer a shiny, reflective finish or the richness of brushed chrome – metallic accessories and décor will be a big hit in 2024.
